EASY brings “SPIRIT” to life, Part 2

In edition 5/2015 of our EASY newsletter, we reported that our “SPIRIT” project – the development of the next ECM generation – had been brought to life.

It goes without saying that a task as challenging as developing a new ECM generation should only be attempted if you can dedicate yourself to the job permanently. It does not just involve developing ideas and testing their feasibility; but also critically assessing what has been developed thus far on a continuous basis and seeing if it can be optimised. This is precisely what we do at EASY; fully focused and with the utmost in concentration – and at times even intentionally “screened off”.

Just like at the “SPIRIT” bootcamp, which saw the EASY developers put their heads together for several consecutive days to clarify both fundamental technical questions and functional details and the requirements facing “SPIRIT”. So what were the results? What is the latest? Here chief architect Oliver Merk offers some exclusive insights into “SPIRIT”.

“After EASY World, we began to turn our vision of an application platform for document-intensive business processes into functional and technical concepts. From a technical standpoint, we have reduced the “Business Modules” announced at EASY World to smaller components, which puts the problem-solvers in a position to implement the most wide-ranging scenarios in the field of “Document Management”, “Records Management” and “Business Applications” simply, flexibly, quickly and, wherever possible, without programming.

These individual components are provided on an on-going basis, meaning that the options for problem-solvers and customers continue to increase. The aim is to reproduce all document-intensive business processes from a company into a shared platform that can be continuously expanded. “It takes into account the key components of a platform like this, such as company security and compliance, the simplest document input, best findability, automatic classification and archiving, as well as a whole host of convenient features like ‘intelligent files'”, continued Merk.

EASY experts with extensive project experience have already conducted initial tests on the components of the technical concept together with EASY partners. “We consistently follow this practice-based focus and are planning further discussions with our partners. This will ensure that we fulfil the demands of the market and prioritise them correctly.

We also want to provide a small insight into the system architecture for our more technically minded readers: A ‘micro-service’-orientated system architecture means that several teams can work on SPIRIT at the same time and decoupled – thus the development of SPIRIT is really taking off; in addition it means that we are ensuring that we live up to the special requirements facing scalability, sustainability, agility and the very best quality. Customers and partners benefit from a powerful platform, which is to be provided as a ‘platform as a service’.”
