Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)

Alongside PaaS and SaaS in the area of Cloud computing, is another business model called IaaS. The abbreviation stands for Infrastructure as a Service and means leasing a complete IT infrastructure as a service, hence the name Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS).

From the point of view of a company, the appeal of this sort of service offer is providing a globally highly available and scalable offer by click – and also being able to shut it down at any time. Since you don’t want to purchase the complete infrastructure yourself, these IaaS offers are becoming increasingly more attractive. A good example of this is the Amazon Webservices AWS  – although it should be remembered that the boundaries between PaaS and IaaF are often not clear.
