Public Cloud

The public cloud is a cloud computing model in which IT resources such as computing power, storage and applications are provided by an external provider via the internet.

The infrastructure is shared by several companies or users (multi-tenant model) and is based on a pay-as-you-go billing model.

Features of the public cloud

  • Scalability: resources can be flexibly expanded or reduced as required
  • Cost efficiency: no need to invest in your own servers, billing is based on usage.
  • Maintenance-free: the provider takes care of updates, security patches and infrastructure operation.
  • Location-independent access: services can be accessed worldwide via the Internet.

Public cloud in the ECM sector

Enterprise content management (ECM) systems in the public cloud provide companies with fast, scalable and cost-efficient access to document management, archiving and workflow management systems for automation. Sensitive data should be protected by encryption and access management.

Difference to the private cloud

While the public cloud is open to many users, the private cloud is operated exclusively for a single company. It offers greater control and security, but requires more in-house resources for maintenance and operation.

Interface to the hybrid cloud

A hybrid cloud consists of a combination of public and private cloud services, which can also include an on-premises infrastructure. This architecture allows companies to take advantage of the flexibility and scalability of the public cloud while ensuring the control and security of their own IT resources.
